Tourism is the action of cims coming and spending money in your city, without needing a place to live (i.e. a residential zone area). As well as spending money in your city however, they will also use your roads, public transport and services.

The main difference between tourists and permanent residents of your city are that:

  • No tax is paid directly into your city's treasury
  • Tourists do not need a home or a place to work while they are in your city.
  • Tourists are most likely to use areas marked with commercial specialisations tourism or leisure
  • Tourists are attracted to unique buildings, parks, and monuments.

Tourists can come from any city which has an intercity connection. They can come via road, train, plane or boat. Tourists will always be there for a reason, be it to shop in the commercial areas or see a site of specific interest.

One must ensure that an area that is expected to be especially touristy has good public transportation connections, especially to train station, airports, tourist traps and commercial zones because if not road congestion will build up very quickly and the extra influx of cars can quickly have a negative affect on your economy.
